As the founder of Nourish for Life, I am so proud to have created a weight-neutral practice that reflects my values, and cultivates a culture of inclusivity and compassion. My approach is informed by the principles of Health at Every Size® and provides guidance based on the latest scientific evidence. I am a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, and I encourage balanced nutrition and behavior change to support health while nourishing a positive relationship to food. Rather than simply instruct clients what to eat, I utilize therapeutic models as tools in my counseling to collaboratively set small, attainable goals and create sustaining positive changes for life.

My interest in nutrition began with my love for food and evolved from my desire to improve my own health and my family’s food-related health concerns. After years of working a corporate job, I returned to school and received my Master’s of Science in Nutrition from Boston University. In the past I have worked in the hospital inpatient and outpatient setting, corporate wellness, and community nutrition. I have worked with university students at The Boston Conservatory and Boston College, served on the board of the Massachusetts Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and have been awarded Emerging Dietetic Leader by MAND in 2018, as well as Preceptor of the Year Award by Simmons College in 2019. You can find some of my writing on Ovia Health apps. I also sit on the advisory council for UMass Lowell’s MPH Dietetics program and Regis College’s nutrition program.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, reading, or walking with my dog.

I am passionate about helping my clients establish peaceful relationships with food, movement, and body in a gentle and realistic way. I help my clients with a variety of challenges, such as reframing disordered thoughts, fueling properly for an athletic event, improving body image, managing certain health conditions, or simply learning more about balanced eating. I utilize a combination of psychotherapy techniques and I take a holistic, non-diet approach to my work. My personable, relatable, and professional counseling style helps me connect with my clients in a genuine and effective way, ultimately allowing them to succeed in our work together.

My interest in nutrition began with my desire to improve my performance as a tri-sport athlete. While I experienced the positive impact that a healthy diet could have on my athletic performance, I also experienced the consequences that could result from a diet that was “too healthy.” This inspired me to establish a more sustainable balance between (all) foods and movement, and eventually, to pursue my degrees in nutrition through Simmons University. While I remain passionate about helping athletes, I also love working with adolescent and adult populations, helping them heal their relationships with food and rediscover joy in eating. 

Over the past several years, I have worked at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Army National Guard, North Shore YMCAs, led workshops, and worked with numerous sports teams throughout Boston. I am also a NASM-Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and a former board member through the Massachusetts Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND).

Outside of work, I love being outside, exploring Boston, and drinking cold brew!

Michele “Shelly” DeBiasse, PhD, rdn, ldn

Food provides so much more than the essential nutrients required for us to live. Our relationship with food is often shaped by our emotions, our culture, and the society around us. These important influences on our diet can ultimately affect our health and wellbeing. I provide individualized nutrition and diet counseling with these many influences in mind. I believe that our work together can help you to step forward into the world boldly, with enjoyment, health, and purpose. My work is weight-inclusive and informed by several theoretical approaches to health behavior change including Feminist Theory, the Theory of Reasoned Action/Planned Behavior (including Implementation Intentions), Social Cognitive Theory, Health at Every Size, the Transtheoretical Model (stages of change) and Motivational Interviewing. 

I have been a master’s degree prepared Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) for 35 years. In 2016 I earned my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nutrition and metabolism. For 25 years I worked in the hospital setting providing nutrition care to inpatients in the Intensive Care and Critical Care Units. Most recently, I taught nutrition and dietetics at Boston University where I was a Clinical Associate Professor of dietetics/nutrition for 20 years. I continue to teach nutrition and dietetics students at Framingham State University in Framingham, Massachusetts and the City University of New York (CUNY)/Lehman College in the Bronx, New York on topics such as the theory and practice of nutrition counseling and education and approaches to nutrition care and assessment of clients/patients with a variety of nutrition/diet-related diseases and disease risks. I have conducted research on health behavior change which formed the basis of my dissertation. I have shared my expertise with local TV news and media outlets, have presented webinars, and been invited to speak regionally, nationally, and internationally. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with clients one-on-one to help them achieve their health goals through diet and nutrition.
